Laboratory for physical security technology
A basic rule of security technology states that the physical base security of an object must always constitute the indispensable base of the respective security concept. Electronic security can always only supplement mechanical security, but never replace it. Good physical security offers a high level of resistance and does not give any false alarms. In the laboratory for physical security technology, products developed by manufacturers are inspected whether they resist latest modes of operation of criminals. Besides a certified QM system of the manufacturer and good results of an external product inspection, successful type testing is a necessary prerequisite for certification and approval of products.
The laboratory for physical security technology performs test of types or systems of
- burglar-resistant locks and fittings
- key cylinders
- attack-resistant glazing
- bike and trailer locks
- burglar-resistant false front elements
- other security measures (e.g. trailer and container securing devices)
Besides this, the VdS laboratories are the only laboratories in Germany inspecting mechanical and electronic high security locks for securing valuables.
Testing is done in accordance with the procedure VdS 2344 as well as applicable guidelines and standards for the respective product.
Besides the test basics mentioned above, we also perform tests on new products during the development phase.
